Downes Res made it a cup semi finals double for the club last Saturday when they produced an herioc battling performance to beat Ibstock Res away from home 6-5 after penalties.
Downes knew they had to be up for the game as Ibstock had already beaten them twice this season, and the first twenty five minutes proved that they were, Downes began much the brighter and skipper Neil Higgot put the Tangerines 1-0 up after 10 minutes when he curled his low shot beyond keeper Petitt.
Downes doubled the lead on 22 minutes when Robbie Nettleton cut in from the left to lift his shot over Petitt for 2-0.
Things looked comfortable for Downes as they outbattled their opponents until the ball was carelessly given away and Foster ran with the ball and hit a bullett over Misfud for 2-1.
A rejuvanated Ibstock side came out in the second half and put Downes under pressure, a couple of fine saves from Misfud and last ditch tackles kept Downes infront.
However, the pressure told, after 70 minutes veteran Rog Goddard headed in unchallenged from a corner for 2-2 and extra time.
Both sides created half chances in extra time but failed to win the match and what had been a great game was to finish with a penalty competition.
Ant Wills back after 5 months out scored the first penalty for Downes, Misfud then made a fine save from the first Ibstock taker. Higgot then made it 2-0 which was followed by a miss from Ibstock. Matt Clarke and Jamie Ward both found the net and the Reserves had won a memorable match for the club.
The reserves will meet Northfield Eagles or Barlestone St Giles in the Semi Final.
